“Lest We Forget:” Gratitude And Legacy With RCPT
A weekend in photos. The parachutists of Round Canopy Jump Team prepare to fill the skies over Normandy for the historic 80th anniversary of D-Day.
Honor, gratitude, and legacy are important parts of the American identity, those ideals are exactly what Round Canopy Jump Team (RCPT) promote through their commemorative airborne team. The highly qualified collection of retired US Special Forces, Airborne Jumpmasters, and parachutists from many different nations came together to prepare for what will be a historic anniversary this June in Normandy, France.
The D-Day invasion of France by the Allies was a pivotal moment in modern history and a turning point of the Second World War. It opened the gates of Europe which had been living under the iron grip of Nazi Germany, and would ultimately liberate millions of people across the continent. The months of brutal fighting that began with the Normandy landings would culminate with the fall of the Third Reich and Adolf Hitler.
The freedom and relative peace the West has enjoyed for nearly 80 years can be directly linked to the epic battle that unfolded with the D-Day invasion. Millions of people from dozens of countries will gather this June in Normandy to honor, and commemorate those men and woman who fought and died to liberate the Free World from totalitarian fascism.
Along with their American counterparts at RCPT, were representatives from France, Canada, Honduras, and the United Kingdom.
